Lincoln keeps Cherokee County winless

CENTRE – The Lincoln Golden Bears scored 35 points in the first half and kept the Cherokee County Warriors winless Friday night with a 35-13 victory.

Senior running back T.J. Truss led the Golden Bears (4-2, 4-0 Region 5) with 159 yards on nine carries and three touchdowns.

Truss got the Golden Bears rolling with a 53-yard touchdown run with 9:46 left in the first quarter, putting Lincoln up 7-0.

Tykie Sillmon scored Lincoln’s next touchdown on a 1-yard run that increased the lead to 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Truss tallied his second touchdown of the game on a 34-yard run to open the second-quarter scoring, putting Lincoln on top 21-0. He found the end zone for a final time later in the second quarter. This time, he scored on a 29-yard run to give the Golden Bears a 28-0 advantage.

Lincoln added its final touchdown of the half on a 69-yard interception return, putting the Golden Bears up 35-0 at halftime.

Cherokee County (0-6, 0-5) finally got on the scoreboard on Jacob Whitmire’s 55-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter. Eric Burgess added the extra point to cut Lincoln’s lead to 35-7.

Ty Green had an 85-yard touchdown run in the fourth for the Warriors on the last play of the game.

Green led the Warriors with 118 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown. Senior quarterback Tanner Young completed 6 of 13 passes for 58 yards.

Cherokee County travels to Anniston on Friday. Lincoln hosts Jacksonville.
