JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State will play Georgia State in football during the 2013 season, JSU Athletics Director Warren Koegel announced on Wednesday.

“We are pleased to announce that we have agreed to play Georgia State in 2013,” Koegel said. “We are located less than two hours from Atlanta and this will be a great opportunity for our coaches and players to play in one of the nicest venues in the country at the Georgia Dome.”

The game will be played on Sept. 21, 2013, at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, and it will mark the third meeting between the two teams.

Jacksonville State won the 2010 meeting 34-27 in overtime in Atlanta, and then claimed a 37-21 win over the Panthers at Burgess-Snow Field during the 2011 season.

The 2013 season will mark Georgia State's first year in the Sun Belt Conference and the second year of GSU's FBS transition process.

The Panthers will play a 12-game FBS schedule in 2013, including an eight-game Sun Belt schedule, but GSU will not be eligible for the Sun Belt title or postseason bowl games until 2014.

Jacksonville State will have the opportunity to play 12 games during the 2013 season and Koegel says he is hopeful to announce the full schedule in the coming weeks.
