Mrs. Sue Huckaby, 77, of Cave Spring, passed away Friday afternoon, October 12, 2012, in a Rome care facility following an extended illness. Mrs. Huckaby was born in Piedmont, Alabama. Mrs. Huckaby was associated with the Georgia School for the Deaf for 34 years prior to her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cave Spring, and was a former member of the Roman Square Square Dancers and of the Cave Spring Garden Club.

Mrs. Huckaby is survived by her husband of 61 years, Buck Huckaby, her son, Phil Huckaby of Ranger, and her daughter, Teresa Huckaby of Cave Spring, brother, Emeris Smitherman of St. Simmons Island, four grandchildren, and a special niece, Linda Kerr.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, October 14, 2012, John House’s Cave Spring Chapel Funeral Home with Mr. Tom Payne and Mr. Jim Whitworth officiating. Intermet followed in the Cave Spring Cemetery. John House’s Cave Spring Chapel directing.

Mrs. Huckaby was the daughter of the late Daniel and Carrie Farmer Smitherman.

Mrs. Huckaby was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tommy Smitherman.
