Chandler Mackey's all-around effort leads Sand Rock past West End

WALNUT GROVE - Sand Rock junior Chandler Mackey made his presence felt on both sides of the football Friday at Class 2A, Region 7 rival West End.

He rushed for 121 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns. Mackey also posted 7 1/2 tackles and came away with an interception on defense to lead the Wildcats to a 28-13 victory.

The Wildcats (4-4, 3-3) jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead and held a 21-0 advantage at halftime before West End (0-8, 0-6) finally got on the scoreboard with a touchdown in the third quarter and another in the fourth.

Sand Rock junior quarterback Dylan Mackey completed 10 of his 11 pass attempts for 146 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 42 yards on 15 carries with another score. His top target of the night was senior receiver Stethan Chandler, who had five receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, Sand Rock senior defensive end Drake Wilbanks tallied 5 1/2 tackles with two sacks. Sophomore defensive back Chase Garrett had an interception.

The Patriots were led by junior quarterback Levi Weems. He completed 7 of 20 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 59 yards on 13 carries.

Sand Rock returns home on Friday to face Ider.
