The Cherokee County Public Library has on ongoing book sale. Get paperbacks for as little as a dime and hardbacks for as little as 50 cents or $1. The library is open today from 8 a.m. until noon. Call the library at 256-927-5838 for further information.

Visit the beautiful Rock Village, home of some of the best hiking and rock climbing throughout the world. Enjoy fresh air and beautiful scenery. Go to the intersection of U.S. Highway 411 and Highway 68 in Leesburg, turn right, turn left on Cherokee County 36, to the intersection of County Road 36 and County Road 70, turn left and follow the signs.

The Cherokee County High School Class of 1982 will hold its 30 year reunion at Chattokee Lodge in Gaylesville. For more information, call 256-458-3554.

Leesburg Haunted House will run through Nov. 3 on Friday and Saturday nights on Lokey Street beside the volunteer fire department. For information on group rates, call 256-526-8228.

Promiseland Worship in Centre will hold its Fall Festival Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Centre First Baptist Church contemporary worship service, “Impact” begins at 8:30 a.m.

The Edge, a contemporary worship service that welcomes each person as he or she is and challenges us all to grow together in our faith in Jesus Christ, meets at 8:45 a.m. at Centre First United Methodist Church.

Little River Canyon National Preserve will celebrate 20 years as a National Park Unit on October 21, 2012. Little River Canyon National Preserve was established by an act of Congress on October 21, 1992. The legislation recognizes the rugged and beautiful scenery, unique natural and cultural resources, and the many recreational opportunities found here. Little River Canyon National Preserve’s boundary encompasses former Alabama Power Company property, DeSoto State Park, Little River State Wildlife Management Area, the Canyon, and Canyon Mouth Day Use Area. The National Park Service partners with the Jacksonville State University that operates the Canyon Center; the Alabama Department Conservation and Natural Resources that oversees hunting, fishing, and operation of DeSoto State Park; and Fisher Rescue that provides rescue services to park visitors. The National Park Service and JSU’s Canyon Center are coordinating special programs and activities for the public at the Center beginning at one p.m.



The Wood Family Reunion will be held at noon at Mt. Springs United Methodist Church on County Road 59. A covered dish lunch will be served. For more information, call 256-447-7747.

Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Piedmont will have as guest speaker for its Sunday, Oct. 21 morning worship service Mary Margaret Douglas.
