The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two local men on arson charges in connection with a fire reported in the Moshat Community over the weekend.

Arrested, according to Shaver, were Jimmy Shane Hunter, 34, of Centre, and Dennis Dewayne Morgan, 34, of Leesburg, who were charged with arson in the second degree and obstructing governmental operations.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, at approximately 8 p.m., fire fighters with Spring Creek, Centre, and Ellisville Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported structure fire on County Road 83. Fire fighters arrived to find an abandoned mobile home completely engulfed in flames.

Cherokee County Fire/Arson Investigator Shawn Rogers also responded to the scene. Two suspects were located inside a residence next to the burned dwelling, Shaver said.

Both men are currently being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing, Shaver said.
