In the first game, Levi Mintz went all six innings and allowed two hits while striking out six.
Jim Nelson provided all the offense Cedar Bluff needed, going 2 for 5 with a grand slam and seven RBI. Curtis Abernathy and Seth Gordon both had two hits, while Lance Estes and Austin McCullough both had singles. Estes added three RBI.
Nelson stayed hot in game two, going 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI. Abernathy had two hits, while Gordon and Zack Taylor both added singles.
Four Cedar Bluff pitchers combined for the no-hitter, with Abernathy earning the win.
Spring Garden 13-22, Asbury 1-1 – At Asbury, Spring Garden’s Andrew Maddox and Jake Scott both pitched complete games in a Class 1A, Area 12 sweep of Asbury.
In game one, Maddox earned the win after pitching a four-hitter. In game two, Scott gave up just two hits in the victory by the Panthers.
Tyler Messer led the Panthers at the plate, going a combined 7 for 8 with two home run, a triple, a double and three singles. Scott was 4 for 9 with three doubles and scored seven runs. Tyler Smart was 5 for 10 with five RBI and scored four runs. Jeffrey Hammond went 4 for 8 with two RBI and scored five runs. T.J. Brittain finished 5 for 9 with five RBI and scored four runs.
Piedmont 7, Sand Rock 6 – At Piedmont on Thursday, Bulldogs pitcher Kirk Pope pitched four innings, giving up one hit, no runs and recorded two strikeouts to end Sand Rock’s five-game win streak.
Matt Reynolds, who picked up the win for Piedmont (5-3), pitched three innings, striking out two while allowing four hits and three earned runs.
Reynolds and Pope were also the only Bulldogs to get multiple hits. Pope went 2 for 4 with a RBI and two runs. Reynolds was 2 for 3.
In the fifth, Hammett pinch ran for Reynolds — who at the time was still the team's pitcher — and scored what would prove to be the winning run.
Hammett came in to pinch run three times and scored each time.
Sand Rock dropped to 8-3 with the loss.
Golf
Cherokee County 175, Hokes Bluff 181, Crossville 189 – At Cherokee County Country Club on Thursday, Cherokee County got a 39 from Jake Minnix and a 40 from Justin Wood in defeating Hokes Bluff and Crossville.
The Warriors shot 175, while Hokes Bluff shot 181 and Crossville 189.
Hokes Bluff’s Zach Contris had the best score of the day with a 38.
Trai West added a 43 for Cherokee County. Riley Wilson had a 41 for Hokes Bluff and Brock Wood led Crossville with a 45.
Hokes Bluff and Crossville will face Cherokee County again on Tuesday at Silver Lakes Golf Course.
