Prior to the regular meeting of the Cedar Bluff Town Council, the newly-elected mayor and three council members were sworn in by Probate Judge Melvin Salter. Mayor Martha Baker and Council members Tammy Crane, Billie Burkhalter and Jerry Sprayberry took an oath to defend the constitution of the United States and the State of Alabama, and to faithfully and honestly perform the duties of the jobs in which they were elected.

Mayor Baker called the regular council session to order with invocation and pledge to the flag. The first item of business was the appointment of Billie Burkhalter as Mayor Pro Tempore.

The council set their regular meeting the second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. and a workshop on the fourth Monday of each month at 4:30 p.m.

The selection of officers appointed by the council was delayed until the regular meeting in December. These officers include: Chief of Police, Fire Chief and Town Clerk.

The council approved Regions Bank in Centre and Generations Bank in Cedar Bluff as depositories for the towns funds.

They also approved Attorney Bill Hawkins as the town’s legal representative.

In other business, Suzanne Mehler with the 20th Century Club addressed the council regarding some Christmas activities that they are planning for the town park during the holidays. The Club will provide more information as they finalize their plans.

The next regular meeting of the Cedar Bluff Town Council will be Dec. 10 at 5:30 p.m.
