MRS. VIRGINIA ANN WARD TALLENT

Mrs. Virginia Ann Ward Tallent, 78, of Rome passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the Kindred Hospital in Rome. Virginia, known as “Jenny” to her immediate family, was born in Menlo, Georgia. She grew up primarily in Alabama, graduating from Gaylesville High School in Gaylesville, and moved to Rome after marriage. Virginia was an extremely hard worker, who over the course of her lifetime was employed by Champion Garment, Integrated Products, K-Mart, Manager at Kay’s Kastles Ice Cream Shoppe, and her last, and probably most memorable job she loved before retirement, was with WalMart in West Rome for over ten years. After retiring, she was self-employed in an effort to care for her own Mother who was in declining health. She devoted her entire life to her daughters, grandchildren, and her Mom. Her hobbies included working in the yard, planting flowers, sewing, and watching the Atlanta Braves play baseball. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two daughters, Vickie Tallent, Rome, and Valerie Cook and her husband Rusty, Rome; three grandchildren, Amanda Cook Harris, Ben Cook, and Elise Tallent, all who live in Rome; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Katelyn, and Jack Harris, Rome; brothers Charles Ward and his wife Faye of Austell, Georgia, and Billy Ward, of Buford, Georgia. Several cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive, as well as a wonderful friend who was her co-worker at WalMart, Gail Neal.

The family will receive friends at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, on Saturday, November 24, 2012, from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. (EST). Graveside services will follow at 3:00 P.M. (EST) the Ward family site at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Broomtown, Alabama, with the Reverend Corey Wright officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial contributions be sent to Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Avenue, Rome, Georgia, 30165. Parnick Jennings, Sr.’s Good Shepherd Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tallent was the daughter of the late Millard Harrison Ward, and the late Minnie Annis Dougherty Ward.

Mrs. Tallent was also preceded in death by her oldest brother, Franklin Ward, sisters-in-law Carolyn Ward, Mae Ward, and Annie Louise Ward, and many of her closest friends.
