Grand Jury arrest leads to more charges

On Nov. 21, 2012, Cherokee County Sheriff Deputy Nick Vaughn received information that a suspect wanted on 37 grand jury indictments was staying at a local motel. Chief Deputy Tim Hayes, Investigator Brent Snead, Deputy Keith Morgan, and Reserve Officer Jeremy Stepps responded to the location and arrested two men on drug, property, and other charges.

Arrested, according to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, were Keioga Troy Quarles and Joshua Pettyjohn who were taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana in the second degree, possession of drug paraphernalia and receiving stolen property in the third degree. Quarles is also being hold on the 37 Grand Jury indictments, Shaver said.

Methamphetamine, marijuana, cash, and a handgun reported stolen from Piedmont, Ala. were found in the men's possession, Shaver said.
