Thursday Basketball Roundup: Cedar Bluff boys, girls rally past Piedmont

PIEDMONT – The Class 1A, No. 2 Cedar Bluff Tigers rallied from a seven-point deficit at halftime to post a 58-53 basketball victory at Class 3A, No. 6 Piedmont on Thursday.

DeAngelo Hardy led the Tigers (3-0) with 20 points. Terrence Scales added 18 points.

Darnell Jackson led Piedmont (1-1) with 11 points. Jaylan Johnson and Cass McCord both finished with 10 points.

Piedmont led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter and 27-20 at halftime. The game was tied at 37 after three quarters.

In girls action, Cedar Bluff used a 24-10 run in the fourth quarter to pull out a 47-41 victory over Class 3A, No. 10 Lady Bulldogs.

Audrianna Hargitt led the Lady Tigers (4-2) with 23 points. Katie McGinnis added nine points and Hannah Leach finished with seven points.

BreAnna Thompson tallied 16 points for Piedmont (3-2). Sarah Garner contributed 14 points.

Piedmont led 7-6 at the end of the first quarter, but Cedar Bluff held a 15-14 advantage at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs were ahead 31-23 heading into the fourth quarter.

Cedar Bluff plays at Sand Rock on Friday. Piedmont travels to Anniston.

Hokes Bluff boys 41, Collinsville boys 37

HOKES BLUFF – David Hernandez scored 12 points, but they weren’t enough to lead Class 1A, No. 6 Collinsville to a basketball victory at Class 4A, No. 9 Hokes Bluff on Thursday. The Panthers fell by the final of 41-37.

Collinsville (2-1) built a 29-16 lead before Hokes Bluff (4-0) rallied for the victory.

The Eagles were led by Isaac Haas, who scored 15 points. Brad Robertson added 10 points.

Collinsville hosts Cedar Bluff on Tuesday.

Hokes Bluff girls 41, Collinsville girls 32

HOKES BLUFF – The Class 1A, No. 10 Collinsville Lady Panthers fell to Hokes Bluff by the final of 41-32 in basketball action Thursday.

Kiana Ford led Collinsville (5-1) with nine points. Christy Cox came away with eight points, six steals and five rebounds. Brittney Tidmore finished with four points and seven assists.

Carlie Shields led the Lady Eagles (4-1) with 16 points. Hannah Evans contributed 12 points.

Collinsville led 16-14 at halftime, but Hokes Bluff managed to rally for the win.

Collinsville hosts Cedar Bluff on Tuesday.

Spring Garden boys 65, Southeastern boys 26

REMLAP – The Spring Garden Panthers had little trouble improving to 2-0 in basketball action Thursday. They posted a 65-26 victory.

Spring Garden jumped out to a 26-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, then the Panthers limited the Mustangs to two points in the second for a 47-11 halftime lead.

Josh Hale led the Panthers with 13 points and four rebounds. Jake Grogan added 12 points and four boards. Will Ivey contributed nine points, three assists and two steals.

Spring Garden gets back into action Saturday morning when it entertains Jacksonville.

Saks boys 63, Cherokee County boys 60

ANNISTON – JoJo Diamond netted 24 points and Tony Pruitt added 18, but they weren’t enough to lead Cherokee County past Saks in basketball action Thursday. The final was 63-60.

The Warriors (1-6) jumped out to an 18-12 first-quarter advantage, but trailed 34-32 at halftime. Saks held a 48-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In girls action, the Lady Warriors captured a 56-29 victory over Saks. The Lady Warriors led 27-15 at halftime and 41-22 at the end of three quarters. No further information was available.

Both Warrior teams are back in action Friday at home against Etowah.
