CENTRE – The Cherokee County Country Club in Centre will host a 4-Person Scramble in memory of Bill Floyd on Dec. 15 in support of the Toys for Tots campaign. The cost is $25 per player plus a toy to be placed in the donation box.

The tournament is played in honor of William “Bill” Floyd, who died Sept. 17, 2011. Floyd was a member of the Cherokee County Country Club and an ardent supporter of the Toys for Tots campaign through his association with the United States Marine Corps.

Floyd joined the USMC at a young age and served in Korea at the Chosin Reservoir and the DMZ. He also served two tours in Vietnam.

Floyd retired from the Marine Corps with over 22 years of service. Following the Marine Corps, Floyd joined the United States Marshall Service where he served as a Deputy U.S. Marshall for over 20 years.

Floyd’s concerns and commitment to civic causes continued until his passing. He was driven to make sure that no child in Cherokee County missed out on toys at Christmas and rallied support from local businesses and individuals.

The tournament is scheduled to tee off at 10 a.m.

Also, the monthly 50-and-over senior tournament will be held on Dec. 10. Lafayette in Georgia hosts one the first Monday of each month. Cherokee County Country Club hosts the second Monday. Pine Hill in Anniston has the third Monday, and Stonebridge in Rome, Ga., has the fourth Monday.

The event is $30 per person, which includes tournament and lunch, and more than one flight. Starting time is 10 a.m. The tournament is a two-person scramble.

For more information on both tournaments, please contact the Cherokee County Club at 256-927-5070 or e-mail at cherokeeclub@tds.net.
