Calhoun County authorities are investigating the possible connection between a body discovered in Piedmont earlier this week and a drug ring that formerly operated in the area.

On Tuesday, Dec. 4, agents discovered a body near Piedmont. Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson stated that forensics agents are now trying to identify the remains.

James Patrick Burrows and Jeffrey Scott McFry, reports said, went missing 22 years ago after allegedly stealing marijuana from David Ronald Chandler, a known drug dealer.

Karen Steed, another missing person, could also have a connection to the drug ring, report said. A fourth person who disappeared three years ago has no known connection, reports said.

Chandler is now serving time in a federal prison, according to reports.

Agents hope to identify the body through dental records, Sheriff Amerson said.
