Sand Rock basketball teams sweep Gaston

SAND ROCK - Courtney Rowe posted 19 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and eight steals to lead the Sand Rock Lady Wildcats to a 55-49 home basketball victory over Class 2A, Area 11 rival Gaston on Friday.

Amber Ashley added 14 points, eight boards, three steals, an assist and a block for the Lady Wildcats (5-2, 2-0). Ashley Norris netted six points and grabbed a pair of rebounds. Leslie Mackey finished with five points, five rebounds and a steal.

Sierra Porter led Gaston (1-7, 0-1) with 17 points. Destinay Allen added 12 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Gaston led 11-10 at the end of the first quarter, but Sand Rock charged ahead 21-19 at halftime. The Lady Wildcats increased their lead to 34-23 at the end of the third quarter.

In boys action, Dylan Mackey netted 14 points and Joel Brock added 10 to pace the Wildcats to a 52-46 victory over Gaston.

Dakota Mabry and Chase Garrett finished with eight and seven points respectively for the Wildcats (2-3, 1-1).

Trevion Rooks led Gaston (0-8, 0-1) with 17 points. Albert Douglas finished with 14 points.

Gaston held a 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. The game was tied at 27 at halftime. Sand Rock jumped ahead 41-33 at the end of the third quarter.

Both Sand Rock teams get back in action on Tuesday when they host Ider beginning at 6 p.m.

Cedar Bluff girls 61, Coosa Christian girls 19

CEDAR BLUFF - Audrianna Hargitt scored 20 points to lead the Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers to a 61-19 victory over visting Coosa Christian on Friday.

The win improved Cedar Bluff's record to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in Class 1A, Area 10.

Cedar Bluff plays at Gaston on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.

Cedar Bluff boys 73, Coosa Christian 21

CEDAR BLUFF - DeAngelo Hardy and Terrence Scales both finished with 20 points to pace the eighth-ranked Cedar Bluff to a 73-21 victory over Coosa Christian on Friday.

Cedar Bluff improved to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in Area 10. The Tigers play at Gaston on Saturday.
