CIVIC, NON-PROFIT WINNER. Charles Brumbeloe and family were winners in the Civic/Non Profit float competition in the Cherokee County 2012 Christmas Parade. This year’s parade included more than 100 entries, including a variety of floats, antique cars, horses and other attractions.
Pre-parade entertainment included sounds of the season by the Music Emporium and Michael John Thomas.
Emcees for the event were WEIS Radio Personalities Jerry Baker and Shelia Richardson.
The Rev. John Mullaney, pastor of Centre First Methodist Church, opened with the invocation. He was joined on the review stand with his wife, Denise and daughters, Maggie and Lucie.
As the parade made its way through the downtown area, the Cherokee County Association of Volunteer Firefighters Honor Guard led the way aboard Engine 99, an emergency response vehicle which served at Ground Zero in New York City following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The town of Gaylesville was the Grand Marshal for this year’s parade.
Civic/Non Profit winners in this year’s float competition were Charles Brumbeloe with “Home for the Holidays”- first place winner; Country Christmas from Baker’s Hill, second place winner and Emmanual Baptist Church, third place winner.
Business/Municipality winners were Quick Loans, first place winner; Cherokee Assisted Living and Goody’s, second place winner and Complete Cash, third place winner.
The Music Emporium and Michael John Thomas concluded this year’s festivities with a local favorite, “Sweet Home Alabama.”
The Spirit of Cherokee extends its appreciation to all of those who helped make the 2012 Christmas Parade a huge success. Chairpersons were Thereasa Hulgan and Joy Perry. They extend a special thanks to Johnny Roberts, Lanny Starr, Haley Hulgan and Beverly Daniel for their help and also to the City of Centre Maintenance Department for assistance as well.
The Spirit of Cherokee expressed appreciation to Jerry Baker and Shelia Richardson with WEIS Radio for “a wonderful job emceeing the parade and to Michael John Thomas and the Music Emporium for the sound.
“We had around 100 entries with everything from beauty queens, cheerleaders, motorcycles, antique cars and tractors, fire trucks and horses and of course the highlight was the end of the parade with Santa riding high atop the Centre Fire Truck waving at all the boys and girls,” said Joy Perry with the Spirit of Cherokee. “As always, the Cherokee County Rescue Squad did a fantastic job overseeing the lineup and providing security for the parade.”
