Slight changes for area basketball teams in latest ASWA poll

Most area basketball teams ranked in the Alabama Sportswriters Association basketball poll saw little changes this week. The latest poll was released late Wednesday evening.

Only one area boys team is ranked, and that is Class 1A Collinsville (5-1). The Panthers remained at No. 4 for the second consecutive week. They host Coosa Christian on Friday.

Dropping out of the boys rankings this week is Cedar Bluff (6-3). The Tigers were No. 8 last week and are coming off a 57-56 loss to Spring Garden (5-2) on Tuesday. Both Cedar Bluff and Spring Garden received consideration for this week’s poll.

Cedar Bluff travels to Gaylesville on Thursday, while Spring Garden travels to Sand Rock on Saturday.

In the girls rankings, Spring Garden (6-4) maintained its No. 7 ranking from last week. The Lady Panthers travel to Sand Rock on Saturday.

Two other area teams received consideration for the Class 1A girls rankings this week: Collinsville (7-2) and Cedar Bluff (6-6). Collinsville hosts Coosa Christian on Friday, while Cedar Bluff travels to Gaylesville on Thursday.

In Class 2A, Sand Rock (6-3) continued to receive consideration for the poll. The Lady Wildcats travel to West End of Walnut Grove on Friday.

The Piedmont Lady Bulldogs (6-3) held steady at No. 10 in this week’s Class 3A poll. Piedmont travels to Ohatchee on Thursday.

The Cherokee County Lady Warriors (9-2) fell one spot to No. 9 this week in the Class 4A rankings. Cherokee County hosts Jacksonville on Friday.
