Piedmont won the Cedar Bluff Softball tournament on Saturday night, March 21.
CEDAR BLUFF – Piedmont’s Kayla Allen belted out the game-winning hit Saturday night in the bottom of the eighth inning against Collinsville. Allen’s hit drove in Tracie Donaldson for the winning run in a 4-3 come-from-behind win in the championship game of the Cedar Bluff Softball Tournament.

"We’ve got a really young team and that is what they needed," Piedmont coach Matt Deerman said. "This win has given them some confidence, and they needed that."

Using international tie-breaker rules, Collinsville (4-2) took a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth before Piedmont (7-6) rallied for the win.

Catie Hightower was at second base to lead off the inning. She stole third and home to make it 3-2 Collinsville. Miranda Stewart doubled and came home on a double by Hilarie Hincey to tie the game at 3.

Donaldson came in to pinch-run for Hincey and scored the winning run on Allen’s hit.

In earlier action on Saturday, Collinsville defeated Gaylesville 11-4 and Piedmont claimed a 9-4 win over Jacksonville Christian to set up the championship game.

The Friday and Saturday tournament also featured Valley Head and host Cedar Bluff.
