Lady Warriors sweep trimatch with Ashville, Pleasant Valley

Lauren Millsaps posted 14 kills and five blocks and teammate Kaitlyn Griffith came away with 33 digs and five blocks as the Cherokee County Lady Warriors swept Ashville and Pleasant Valley on Tuesday.

Cayla Machleit added 28 assists in the sweep. Cherokee County defeated Ashville 25-21 and 25-14. The Lady Warriors beat Pleasant Valley 25-21, 19-25 and 15-12.

“All of the girls played hard and I am so proud of them,” said Lady Warrior coach Amy Barnes. “We have made it our goal to be more consistent and we showed it today with our level of play. We are passing the ball extremely well, and when we do that our offense starts coming together.”

As a team, the Lady Warriors (6-4) had 14 aces and 13 blocks. Their serve-receive-passing percentage was 89 percent.

Piedmont improves to 9-2

At Piedmont on Tuesday, Tara Blanchard posted 17 kills as Piedmont improved to 9-2 with wins over Weaver, Glencoe and Cleburne County.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Weaver 25-2, 25-9, and Glencoe 25-6, 25-14. Scores from the Cleburne County match were not reported.

Brittany Strott had 30 assists for Piedmont. Miranda Stewart and Katie Hightower both had nine digs. Paige Smith had six aces and Christy Minton had six kills.
