Mayor Mackey called the meeting to order, and everyone was led in prayer and the pledge to the American flag.
All visitors were welcomed and all councilmen were present.
The minutes and expenditures were read and approved.
In new business, the council gave Cherokee County Youth Girl Softball permission to use the Leesburg softball fields during the upcoming season.
The council approved a special edition article with picture for a special edition in the Cherokee County Herald, and Vickie Robinson addressed the council concerning this.
The council approved reinstating the police officer reserve program.
Three volunteers are being sought to ride with full time officers.
Police Chief Lanny Ransum said the program should be up and running soon as applications, training, and qualifications would be evaluated.
The cost would come from workers comp, and the reserve officers would not have arresting powers. The reserve officers would have to provide their own shirt.
Interested candidates should contact Chief Ransum at the department.
The council voted to offer volunteer firefighters death and disability insurance through the Alabama Volunteer Firefighters Association at a cost of $20. per firefighter. This insurance would pay $100. a week to an injured firefighter, and $20,000. to the beneficiary of a firefighter killed in the line of duty.
Mayor Mackey briefly discussed problems with the sewage work in the town and problems with the cable TV company.
The meeting was adjourned and everyone thanked for coming to the meeting.
