SPRING GARDEN – Grant Benefield tossed a complete game against Collinsville Tuesday, allowing no earned runs on three hits with 12 strikeouts in leading No. 5 Spring Garden to an 8-2 Class 1A, Area 13 baseball victory Tuesday.

Jake Grogan led Spring Garden (11-4) at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs. Will Penton went 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs. Benefield was also 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs.

Will Ivey, Andrew McLarty, and Riley Austin all added singles.

Spring Garden finishes the series at Collinsville on Thursday.

Softball

Cherokee County 12, Jacksonville 0

JACKSONVILLE – Tori Davis did a little of everything to help Class 4A, No. 4 Cherokee County earn a 12-0 softball win at Area 11 rival Jacksonville on Tuesday.

Davis tossed six innings in the circle, yielding only one hit with no walks and 12 strikeouts. She was also 2-for-4 at the plate with a run and two RBIs.

Kayle Moon had a three-run homer for the Lady Warriors (10-1, 2-0). Molly Brewer went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Darbie Rosser had a hit and two runs. Madison Millsaps also had a hit, a run and a RBI.

Kari Arnold added a hit and a RBI. Jessen Burk scored three runs.

The Lady Warriors open the Cherokee County Softball Tournament on Thursday against Spring Garden at Gaylesville at 6 p.m.

Sand Rock 15, Gaston 0

SAND ROCK – The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats jumped out to an early lead against Class 2A, Area 13 rival Gaston and captured a 15-0 victory in softball action on Tuesday.

Taylor Rogers and Madison Smith led Sand Rock (11-2, 3-0) at the plate. Rogers went 3-for-3 with a 2-run homer in the fourth inning. She had a walk, scored four runs and had four RBIs.

Smith also belted a three-run homer and finished the game going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, a run and five RBIs.

Kelsey Hayes went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and two RBIs. Megan McCullough was 2-for-3 with three runs and a walk. Courtney Williams was also 2-for-3 with a run. Madison McCullough went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Hannah Oliver was 1-for-3 with a run. Madalyn Oliver doubled and scored a run. McKenna Morgan had a hit and two RBIs.

Morgan also picked up the win in the circle. She tossed four scoreless innings on five hits with six strikeouts.

Sand Rock opens the Cherokee County Tournament against the winner of the Gaylesville-Cedar Bluff game on Friday at 4 p.m. in Gaylesville.
