Sand Rock made its poll debut at No. 6 this week in the Class 2A softball rankings, released on Thursday. The Lady Wildcats (11-2) play in the Cherokee County Tournament on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Gaylesville. They await the winner of the 3:30 p.m. game between Gaylesville and Cedar Bluff.
The Cherokee Invitational champion Cherokee County Lady Warriors (10-1) also saw movement in the Class 4A softball rankings. The Lady Warriors moved up one spot to No. 3. They open the Cherokee County Tournament on Thursday against Spring Garden at 4:45 p.m.
One other area softball team continued to receive consideration in the poll: the Class 1A Collinsville Lady Panthers (10-3). Collinsville is scheduled to travel to Section on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
In baseball, the Cedar Bluff Tigers (9-4) moved up three spots to No. 7 in this week’s Class 1A rankings. Cedar Bluff is scheduled to open the Cherokee County Tournament on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Gaylesville. The Tigers take on the winner of Friday’s 4 p.m. game between Cherokee County and Gaylesville.
The Spring Garden Panthers (11-4) remained at No. 5 in the Class 1A poll. Spring Garden opens the Cherokee County Tournament against Sand Rock on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Speaking of Sand Rock (6-5), the Wildcats dropped two places to No. 8 in this week’s Class 2A poll.
One other area baseball team received consideration for this week’s poll: the Class 3A Piedmont Bulldogs (7-6). They dropped out of the poll after being ranked fourth last week.
