Local authorities have arrested a Centre woman in connection to a burglary in the Tates Chapel Community.
Arrested, according to reports, was Linda Michelle (Shelly) Mobbs, 35, who was also charged with one count of possession of a forged instrument in the second degree and two counts of forgery in the second degree. The checks were taken in the burglary of the residence on Cherokee County Road 79 and passed at three different business in the county.
Mark Hicks, public information officer, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, said Investigator Seth Rochester made the arrest and that the burglary was solved in part by the vigilance of neighbors watching out for each other. “A neighbor in the area was aware of what was going on in his neighborhood and was able to provide Investigator Rochester with valuable information that in part led to the arrest of a suspect,” noted Hicks. .
“Investigator Rochester did an excellent job in solv-ing this case,” said Hicks. “The people in the neighborhood also did a great job looking out for each other, the merchants in the area also did their part by working with law enforcement in reaching a successful outcome in this case.”
“It seems like every thing and every one were on the same page and every-thing fell into place in this case,” said Hicks. “This is a great example of communities working together to make our county a safer place to live in, this is the kind of help Law Enforcement needs, its people getting involved and providing extra eyes and information to help solve crimes in the county.”
Local merchants are also becoming more vigilant and writing down Drivers License numbers on checks and checking IDs on suspicious people or people they don’t know, Hicks said. Merchants are also urged to be extra cautious when cashing out of town checks and taking credit cards and debit cards from people they don’t know, Hicks said.
