An Evansville, Tenn. man was arrested in connection with a stolen vehicle following a suspicious persons report on Cherokee County Road 70 Saturday evening, July 11.

Arrested, according to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, was Brandon Michael Smith, 26, who was charged with driving under the influence and receiving stolen property in the first degree.

Deputy Shawn Rogers, Shaver said, was on routine patrol on County Road 70 near Rock Village when he was notified by persons camping that a suspicious person had approached them and that the person appeared to be intoxicated. Deputy Rogers located the vehicle, a 1998 Ford F150 truck, and arrested the driver for driving under the influence of alcohol. Upon further investigation it was determined that the truck was reported as stolen.

The vehicle, Shaver said, was recovered at approximately 11:18 p.m. and Smith was identified as the driver of the vehicle.

Smith is currently incarcerated in the Cherokee County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing, Shaver said.
