Cherokee County volleyball outlasts No. 9 Alexandria

Kailtyn Griffith posted 17 kills and Malorie Rosser added 12 kills as the Cherokee County Lady Warriors outlasted Class 4A, Area 12 rival Alexandria on Tuesday. The scores were 25-18, 25-18, 17-25, 20-25 and 15-10.

Cayla Machleit had 40 assists and three aces in the Lady Warriors’ win over the ninth-ranked Valley Cubs. Haley Highfield came away with nine digs. Lauren Millsaps added two blocks.

“This was a big win for us,” Lady Warrior coach Amy Barnes said. “We are now going into the area tournament

ranked number two. We made a lot of incredible hustle plays and passed the ball very well. We played as a team and just had fun.”

Cherokee County opens the Class 4A, Area 12 tournament with a rematch against the Lady Cubs. That match is set for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at top-seeded Jacksonville.
