JACKSONVILLE – Cherokee County junior quarterback Coty Blanchard did his part to help maintain the Warriors’ 500-yard average of offense per game this season.
While the Warriors fell short of that margin against Jacksonville on Friday night (They had 384 total yards), the result was the same in a 48-7 bombing of the Golden Eagles.
Blanchard completed 14-of-18 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns, two of which went to D.J. Fife.
While the offense shined once again for the Warriors (7-0, 5-0 Class 4A, Region 6), it was a special teams’ play that got things going early for Cherokee County.
Senior running back Jacob Morgan had an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter to put the Warriors up 7-0.
Blanchard threw his first touchdown pass of the night to Fife early in the second quarter. This one came from 15 yards, and it put Cherokee County on top 14-0.
Blanchard hooked up with Fife again later in the quarter on a 52-yard scoring strike to give the Warriors a 21-0 advantage.
Fife finished the night with four catches for 91 yards and two scores.
Another big play in the punt return department came from Cameron Dupree. He had a 31-yard return for a score that gave the Warriors a 28-0 lead.
Jacksonville got on the scoreboard with a 1-yard touchdown run before the half to make it 28-7 at the break.
Cherokee County scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter. The first one came on a 13-yard pass from Blanchard to Morgan to put the Warriors on top 34-7. Morgan later added an 8-yard score to push the Warrior lead to 41-7.
Morgan led the Warriors’ ground attack with 56 yards on eight carries with a touchdown.
Moryet Chambers capped the night’s scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
