ASHVILLE – Cherokee County senior running back Jacob Morgan rushed for 113 yards on just nine carries with two touchdowns to lead the Warriors past Ashville 33-3 on Friday.

Morgan got things going early for the Warriors (9-0, 7-0 Class 4A, Region 6). He scored the game’s first touchdown in the first quarter on a 35-yard run. The extra point was no good, keeping the Warriors’ lead at 6-0.

Ashville (0-9, 0-7) cut that lead in half at 6-3 on a 27-yard field goal later in the quarter, but that would be as close as the Bulldogs would be in the game. Cherokee County reeled off 27 unanswered points the rest of the way.

D.J. Fife opened the second-quarter scoring for the Warriors on an 8-yard run, Issac Jones added the extra point to give Cherokee County a 13-3 lead.

Morgan scored his second touchdown of the night later in the second. This one came from 41 yards and helped give the Warriors a 20-3 advantage.

Fife scored again to close out the second-quarter scoring on a 1-yard run to give Cherokee County a 26-3 lead. He finished the night with 94 yards on 14 carries with two scores.

Warrior quarterback Coty Blanchard connected with Gabriel Chambers on a 65-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter for the final score of the night.

Blanchard completed 11-of-17 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 64 yards on five carries.

Chambers led the Warrior receivers with five catches for 78 yards and a score.

The Warrior defense held Ashville to just 161 total yards and forced the Bulldogs to punt six times. The Warrior offense piled up 484 total yards, including 342 yards on the ground.
