A Collinsville man faces a burglary charge after entering an occupied house in the Sand Rock area Thursday evening, Aug. 27. The incident was reported around 9 p.m.
Arrested, according to reports, was Justin Wade Hopkins, 26, who was charged with burglary in the second degree. He was placed in the Cherokee County Detention Center.
According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, the homeowner and his wife were in bed when they heard the doorbell ring. As the homeowner went to check he heard an interior door open inside the house. As the homeowner stepped into the hallway he confronted an intruder who fled from the home, Shaver said.
The homeowner followed the intruder and gave deputies an accurate description of the vehicle along with a tag number. Deputy Tony Pettit located the suspect and vehicle at a residence on County Road 83 inside Dekalb County. The suspect was detained and later identified by the victim.
Deputy Shawn Rogers provided information to Pettit and Investigator Seth Rochester investigated the incident, Shaver said.
