This money will be used to fund local operations," said Shelby Bruce, chapter manager, Cherokee County Chapter of the American Red Cross. "So far this year, we have already spent $7,526 on Cherokee County fire victims and victims of storm damage. People who lose everything in a fire are just as devastated as tornado victims. Unfortunately, government money is not available for them and a lot of them have no insurance. Red Cross wants to be here for them as well as other disaster victims. Part of the funds will also be used for books and materials to train more First Aid and CPR Instructors and to fund the materials needed for some of our Youth Programs. Also there are many items we need to purchase to help us care for people in the event of disaster. Items such as generators, blankets, etc."
