Jeff Nelson has resigned as head football coach at Gaylesville High School. The resignation was accepted at a June 19 Board of Education meeting. As head coach at GHS, Nelson posted a 6-24 record spanning three years. He plans to return to Summerville Middle School in Georgia as a teacher and coach. Nelson, a 1980 graduate of Cedar Bluff, was the defensive coordinator for Summerville before taking the Gaylesville position in 1997.
Nelson's vacated position is now posted on the Board of Education's website at tiger.org. Anyone wishing to coach the Gaylesville Trojans, who haven't had a winning season since 1995, must be certified to teach secondary English. For information, contact Gaylesville Principal Paul McWhorter at 422-3401
