The curtain has opened on another season at Centre Swimming Pool and this summer promising some exciting new activities and events. Earlier this year, the city council voted to enter into an agreement with Centre YMCA for managing the pool this summer.

A small crowd of people gathered for opening ceremonies this past Thursday, May 31. On hand for the occasion was YMCA staff, city officials and other visitors.

We're really excited about kicking off the aquatics program this summer," said Mel Williams, executive director, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce. "This is going to be the first time there has been joint cooperation between the Y and the city. We're looking forward to everything. We appreciate you being here."

Chad Hopper, vice chairman, YMCA Board of Directors, also shared a few words.

"This is a good moment for the YMCA to enter into this agreement with the city of Centre," said Hopper. "Actually, we are going to be signing two agreements today, one for the Saturday Night In The Park which will begin June 9 and will continue to the end of July. And the other is for the Centre City Pool. The YMCA will be responsible for managing the pool, staffing the pool and in return, the city receives all proceeds except for any programs that the YMCA sponsors here at the pool. All of those proceeds go to the YMCA.
