At its May 13 meeting, the Sand Rock Town Council worked out final details for the 2002 Sand Rock Day.

Council member Martha Battles reported that the event would be begin on May 31 at the town park’s Livestock Pavilion with singing performances from 6 – 8 p.m. On June 1, the annual 5K Run is set for 7 a.m. The parade is scheduled for 9 a.m., with games and vendors in the town park to follow until 2 p.m. All are invited.

In other business, the council agreed to schedule the Sand Rock Youth Tennis Camp from June 17-21 at the town park tennis courts.

The council approved a motion to install a new crosswalk sign in front of the school, as well as a motion to purchase a paint striper for present and future town maintenance.

The council approved a motion to accept the town’s 2001 audit, as well as agreeing to pay the renewal cost of the town’s liability insurance.

Mayor Kenny Beck reported that the high school volleyball team would conduct the May fundraising roadblock at the four-way stop, and that the high school color guard team would conduct the June fundraising roadblock at the same location.

Before adjourning, the council heard from Vulcan Communi-cations, Inc. representative Ben Marcus, who requested that the council purchase an advertisement in the updated Chamber of Commerce county map. The council approved a motion to purchase an advertisement at a cost of $280.25
