At its June 10 council meeting, the Sand Rock Town Council designated $300 each year over the next three years for fingerling purchase as part of the Weiss Lake Improvement Association fish re-stocking fund.
In other business, the council approved a motion to renew its Sand Rock School Athletic Club sign at the school’s football and baseball fields at a cost of $100.
The council also discussed the June 1 2002 Sand Rock Day, and considered it an all-around success.
“The set-up of events and booths went well, and it seems like everyone made full use of the grounds,” said Mayor Kenny Beck. “It looked as if the vendors did well, and we had a few that came as far away as Decatur and Cherokee. The overall atmosphere was great, including the singing performances on Friday night.
“First and foremost, I’m extremely proud of the Sand Rock Day Committee of Martha Battles, Melonie Garrett, Chris St. Clair, Sandi Helms and Theresa Hulgan. The hard work and dedication that each one of them put forth is greatly appreciated.
“I’d also like to thank the town council [Battles, St. Clair, Bill Glenn, Saprina Oliver and Bud Brock], as well as the Sand Rock Homemakers Club for organizing the 5K race, Danny Alverson for setting up the sound system, all those who helped out in the concession stands, Model-Tees for providing the signs, the Sand Rock High School Band, Battles Motors and Towing, both of the antique car clubs and our volunteer fire department.”
Before adjourning, Beck expressed thanks to Sand Rock High School Athletic Director Russell Jacoway for performing de-thatching and spraying maintenance at the school softball field.
Beck also reported that council member Bill Glenn had painted the town marquis sign, while Jimmy Oliver had repaired the town park walking track lights
