Sand Rock Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts have a place to learn and practice their respective creeds and codes for the coming year.

At its Aug. 12 meeting, the Sand Rock Town Council agreed to allow the local Girl Scout troop the use of the town hall on each first and third Monday evening of every month, while granting the local Boy Scout troop the town hall on the first Tuesday of each month.

The council specified both agreements to include a signed stipulation for a two-month trial basis, while also requesting that both troops make every effort to participate in the June 2003 Sand Rock Day.

“We as adults should strive to provide a quality environment for such important youth organizations,” pointed out Mayor Kenny Beck.

In other business, Beck reported that he and council member Bill Glenn had recently installed a cross walk sign in the school area, as well as replacing the Short St. sign.

Beck also announced that the school’s softball and basketball team would conduct the August fundraising roadblock, and that the local soccer league has been approved the use of the town park concession stand for the fall season.

Beck said that the town hall and park flags would be displayed on Aug. 31 and Sept. 11, and that the council had received a certificate of appreciation for the Cherokee County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Before adjourning, the council heard from Cherokee County Herald Advertising Manager Vickie Robinson, who requested that the council consider purchasing an advertisement in the paper’s upcoming 9/11 special edition which recognizes the county’s professional and volunteer, police, firefighter, EMT paramedics and 911 emergency personnel. The council agreed to purchase a ¼ page advertisement
