The 14th Annual Leesburg Day promises to be the biggest and best to date.

The event schedule begins tonight with a community singing at 6:30 p.m. at the town pavilion.

On Thursday, the always-popular Homemakers Club Cow Chipping Contest takes place at 6:30 p.m. at the town pavilion.

The annual parade (featuring the Sand Rock High School Marching Maroon Band) kicks off the Saturday schedule at 9:30 a.m., followed by the official 2002 Mrs. Leesburg crowning shortly after 10 a.m.

According to Mayor Ed Mackey, State Rep. Richard Lindsey and City of Gadsden Mayor Steve Means will be on hand, as well as U.S. Congressional candidates Mike Rogers and Joe Turnham.

“Everything is coming along very well, and we’re expecting a good crowd,” said Mackey.

A performance by the bluegrass group Drive begins at 10:30 a.m., while a kareoke contest is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

Other festivities that will take place throughout the day are the Cherokee Cruisers Car Club Antique Car Show (with the winner given the Mayor’s Choice Award), Bass-Master’s Casting Contest, clown performances that include magic shows and skits, arts and crafts booths, free drawing for door prizes, games for all ages and food booths that feature bar-b-que prepared by the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Department, a home-made ice cream stand, cotton candy, lemonade, and much more.
