A Leesburg child was killed and another injured in a single vehicle accident on County Road 71 over the weekend. The accident occurred Sunday, Dec. 29, around 2:30 p.m., on County Road 71 just across the Etowah/Cherokee County line.

According to the state trooper report, Greta Washington, 34, of Leesburg, was westbound on County Road 71, when say she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway, strike two trees and overturn. Two passengers, Myeesha Washington, 4 and Demetrius Washington, 16 months old both of Leesburg, were ejected from the vehicle.

Myeesha Washington was transported to Gadsden Regional Medical Center where she later died from injuries sustained in the accident. Demetrius Washington was transported to Children`s Hospital in Birmingham. His condition has not been released at this time.
