Most businesses will shut down Thursday for Christmas Day and while they’ll have normal hours Friday and beyond, city, county, state and federal government agencies for the most part will take a four-day holiday and not return to work until Monday.

Centre City Hall and the Cherokee County Courthouse will be closed today through Sunday. Thursday’s garbage in Centre will be picked up on Friday.

Local financial institutions will also be closed that day.

Farmers and Merchants Bank, the Southern Bank Company, Union State Bank,Regions Bank and Dekalb Bank-Sand Rock Branch all will close at noon on Christmas Eve and all day Christmas Day.

Cedar Bluff, Gaylesville and Sand Rock Town Halls all will be closed Christmas Day; Leesburg Town Hall will close Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

It won’t be a holiday as such for emergency personnel, including law enforcement, which will be available the usual 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Cherokee County Herald will be closed Christmas Day but will have regular hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday
