Cherokee Electric Cooperative recently made monetary donations to four local agencies through its Operation Round-up program. They include the Cherokee County Crisis Center, the Cherokee County Nursing Home volunteers, Northeast Alabama MR/DD Authority and the Cherokee County Nursing Home Indigent Fund.
Cherokee Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round-Up program distributed its first funds in 1999. Since that time, the program has donated over $58,000 to non-profit organizations in the cooperative’s service area. Every quarter, a volunteer board (separate from the co-op board) reviews applications submitted by various organizations. It is their mission to allocate funds to the organizations they feel best represent, support, and benefit the residents of Cherokee Electric’s service area.
Over the past five years, numerous organizations have received funding to further each group’s goals and activities including: St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Meals on Wheels, Cherokee County Nursing Home Volunteers and Indigent Fund, various Girl and Boy Scout Troops, Coosa River Basin Initiative, Cherokee Nutrition Center, Cedar Bluff Senior Citizens Center, Northeast Alabama MR/DD Authority, Rose Haven, Cherokee County Children’s Advocacy Center, Cherokee Manor, Concerned Citizens for Better Community, Centre Quarterback Club, Sand Rock Athletic Club, Cherokee BMC Hospice, Cedar Bluff Nutrition Center, McLaughlin Department, Cherokee County Amateur Radio Club, YMCA, American Red Cross, Cherokee County Crisis Center, Optimist Club, and the Cherokee Humane Society.
Cherokee Electric Cooperative encourages each of its members to participate in this worthwhile program. For no more than $6.00/year, you can help the citizens and organizations in Cherokee and surrounding areas. It’s easy to participate – simply call the cooperative office and asked for your bill to be “rounded up” to the next dollar. Your contribution will never be more than 99 cents/month and, although that doesn’t seem like much, together it adds up to a lot!
