Local authorities made three arrests this past weekend following the discovery of two methamphetamine labs in the area. The arrests were made Sunday evening, Sept. 26.

Cherokee County Drug Task Force Commander Jeff Morgan said deputies discovered a meth lab in the trunk of a vehicle driven by Jonathan McGatha at a residence on Cherokee County Road 22. McGatha was arrested and charged with manufacturing of methamphetamine in the first degree.

Agents also discovered a meth lab and other drug paraphernalia at a resident on Highway 411. According to reports, Officer Shannon Kelly with the Cherokee County Drug Task Force discovered the meth lab. Arrested were Greg Owens and Lee Copus who were each charged with manufacturing in the first degree, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

A Haz-Mat (Hazardous materials was called in to assist in cleanup efforts, reports said
