“As you know, in April of this year, I placed Commander Jeff Morgan in charge of the Cherokee County Drug and Violent Task Force,” said Wilson. “He along with Leesburg Officer Shannon Kelley and Cherokee County Deputy Danny Conaway have been working very hard to combat the drug problem in our county. As to date they have made 159 drug arrests, shut down 35 illegal drug labs and seized over $40,000 in cash and over 100 guns. The money seized will be used by the Drug Task Force to help continue the fight on drugs in our county. The guns that we seized will be destroyed.
Wilson and Commander Morgan wish to thank the citizens of Cherokee County for their help and support in making these arrests possible.
“We both have been overwhelmed with the phone calls and letters with information concerning drugs,” said Wilson. “It takes caring people like you getting involved to make a difference and without your information some of these arrests would not have been made.”
Last month, Wilson said, Morgan, Officer Kelley and Deputy Conaway attended a methamphetamine certification school in Meridian, Miss., which was state-funded. “They are now Level A certified in the cleanup of methamphetamine labs,” said Wilson. “And with the help of (Task Force) Member Deputy Danny Conaway, we received a grant to buy much-needed equipment for the Drug Task Force.”
