The council also voted to retain Dean Buttram as town attorney.

At its Nov. 8 council, the council approved a motion to retain Evans & Co, PC, as town accountant.

The council also agreed to enter into a $250 contract with the American Red Cross.

Sand Rock Volunteer Fire Department Chief Billy Lumsden gave the department’s September response report, which included one structure fire, one brush fire, one medical call and two traffic accidents.

The council also gave permission to the Sand Rock Women’s Club to plant a tree on town hall property in memory of Ola Bowman.

Council member Saprina Oliver reported that she recently had met with East Alabama Planning Commission Director Diane McClellan about possible grants. Oliver noted that McClellan had provided her with a listing of available grants. Mayor Bill Glenn suggested that the council consider a number of grants and select and focus on one grant application for the coming year.

Before adjournment, Glenn reminded the council that the 2004 Spirit of Cherokee Christmas Parade is scheduled for Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. in Centre
