Two Cherokee County Sheriff’s vehicles crashed Wednesday evening, Feb. 9 as a result of a car chase into Summerville in Chattooga County, Ga.

According to reports, a Cherokee County deputy was making his routine patrol when he spotted a vehicle with no tag and attempted to pull the vehicle over. When the male driver refused to stop and fled into Georgia, another deputy, along with Chattooga County deputies assisted in pursuing him. Chattooga deputies recognized the man because he had felony warrants in Walker County, Ga.

Chattooga County deputies placed tire spikes on the road to stop the driver who hit the spikes and ran off the road in his vehicle. He then fled into the woods, reports said.

When Cherokee County deputies arrived, one vehicle swerved to avoid the spikes. The other deputy, according to the sheriff’s report, locked down to avoid hitting the officer but was unable to do so. Both deputies, while shook up from the incident, were not injured, said Cherokee County Sheriff Larry Wilson.

Damage was reported to both vehicles. The vehicles were transported to Larry’s Tire and Tow-ing in Centre, reports said.

Chattooga County authorities were able to track down the offender and transport him to jail, reports said
