Once the businesses get the ABC approval, they will have to purchase a city permit and license. They can do that up to 4 p.m. Friday, thus if ABC approval is received before then, alcohol sales could begin by the weekend.
Davis said one of the businesses that applied is eagerly awaiting the ABC reply and hopes to be selling by Saturday.
``I talked to one of the distributors and they said they've got the truck loaded, cooled down and ready to go,'' Davis said.
Despite Town Council action scaling back Cedar Bluff's annual Liberty Day celebration, Davis expects a busy day come July 2.
At a recent special town council meeting, the council unanimously voted to cut back on the activities, with only the nighttime fireworks display left under the town's guidance.
``We've spent every dollar we've got on this lawsuit,'' Davis said, referring to action taken against the town following its successful referendum on alcohol sales.
``Liberty Day is a $40,000 layout,'' Davis said. ``Usually, we make it back, but we can't take the risk.''
Davis said he expects some local businesses to pick up the slack and to hold activities, such as bringing in a band, on July 2. However, there will be no town-sponsored activities in the city park, Davis said
