The 2005 Sand Rock Day will be held four months later than usual.

Following its decision last month to move the municipality’s annual celebration from the summer to the fall, the Sand Rock Town Council designated the second Saturday of October as the event’s new date, which this year falls on Oct. 8.

Council members cited cooler weather and additional vendor participation as factors in the decision.

In other business during the June 13 town council meeting, the council agreed to make a $1,200 annual donation to the Gadsden State Community College-Cherokee County campus Nursing School/Community Center project.

The council also approved respective motions accepting the town’s 2004-04 fiscal audit report; allowing the Sand Rock School’s FFA chapter to install new “Welcome to Sand Rock” signs; renewing the town’s sign on the school football field fence; and permitting the Sand Rock Homemakers Club to designate a tree honoring a past SRHC member.

In addition, the council passed a resolution accepting Trust Cable as the town’s cable provider in place of CableSouth.

Before adjournment, the council voted to purchase an advertisement in the Cherokee County Herald’s 2005 Past Times magazine
