The Cedar Bluff Town Council has tabled, for an indefinite period of time, the dedication of the Cedar Bluff Town Park and other memorials to the late Bob Davis, former mayor, who passed away recently at the age of 62.

Reports have circulated in recent weeks about a drive to raise funds for placing a bronze, life-sized statue to honor Mayor Davis for his contribution to the town of Cedar Bluff during his 13 years in office. Total estimated cost would be around $27,000.

Davis resigned from office only a few weeks before his death, stating that mistakes he made in the past had come back to haunt him.

Mayor Donald Sanders made it clear during a recent special called town council meeting that the council will not endorse memorials such as these proposed at this time.

“We have tabled it until the investigation is cleared up for an indefinite period of time,” said Sanders. “No action will be taken on the council’s part. It is not going to happen right now.”

In other action, the council voted to approve $3,000 in expenses for the town’s new drug dog, which is to arrive in the next few days, which will be paid out of the town’s drug seizure funds.

Cedar Bluff Police Officer Jason O’Neal will tend to the dog. Mayor Sanders and Council members expressed their appreciation to Congressman Mike Rogers who was instrumental in securing funds for the town’s drug dog
