A man faces charges in two counties following a gas drive-off and high-speed chase through a portion of Georgia and Cherokee County Monday, Aug. 1.

According to reports, Cedartown, Ga. police pursued Mark Alan Corn, 20, following an alleged gas drive off in Cedartown. Cave Spring Police joined the pursuit and followed Corn across the state line at more than 100 miles per hour.

Georgia authorities, reports said, notified Cherokee County Deputies who attempted surround Corn in the Key Community with a rolling road block and agents then surround Corn to try to slow him down. Corn crashed into one of the Cherokee County vehicles which caused his car to flip off the road and into a tree near Jordan’s Gin on Highway 411.

Corn and a female passenger then crawled out of the vehicle and law enforcement agents handcuffed Corn until an ambulance arrived. Corn and passenger were then transported to Cherokee Baptist Medical Center for treatment.

Corn could faces charges in both Cherokee County and Polk County including speeding and hitting an officer’s vehicle. He has a prior probation violation in Polk County, reports said.

Responding agents included Cherokee County deputies, EMTs, Cherokee County Drug Task Force officers, Cedar Bluff Police officers and Alabama State Troopers
