CEC General Manager Randal Wilkie shared these figures during the August meeting of the Cherokee Electric Cooperative Board of Directors. For the month of July, kilowatt sales were 4,015,665 greater than the same period last year.
The site preparation work for the new Goshen area substation is now complete, Wilkie reported. We have also opened bids for the equipment and the construction of this substation. The bid went to Garnet Electric in Sheffield, Ala. with a total cost including equipment of $2,161,610.
Co-op crews completed construction of a 20+ pole line renovation in the Rodentown area and also an additional feeder circuit in Leesburg.
The automated meter installation program continues to go well, Wilkie said. The Gaylesville and Cedar Bluff areas now have over 2,000 meters installed and functioning properly, with an additional 3,000 left until completion of that area.
To keep operational costs under control, Wilkie said, Cherokee Electric is looking for more economical ways to provide services to members.
After monitoring activities at the Knightens Crossroads office for several months, the decision has been made to no longer staff that location, Wilkie. The location will remain active with a night deposit and mail drop, with those deposits and other mail being picked up daily prior to 10 a.m. This action will satisfy Cherokee Electrics need to reduce costs and continue to provide a convenient way for members in the area to drop payments and other correspondences.
This change becomes effective Oct. 1, Wilkie said.
The board also agreed to sponsor the Annual Appreciation Dinner for local fire departments and Rescue Squad personnel again this fall and to present $250 to each fire department.
In other business, the board agreed to limit the number of participants in the Annual Youth Tour to one representative per school throughout the CEC service area
