The Cherokee County Sheriff`s Department is continuing its investigation into the shooting and burglary of a county resident early Tuesday morning, Sept. 13. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on the property of Harlon Shell Jr. on County Road 300.

According to the sheriff’s report, the perpetrator entered Shell’s property. As Shell walked to his front porch, he saw the alleged burglar fleeing the scene in Shell's 1996 Toyota Pickup Truck. The burglar then shot Shell.

Shell, according to reports, was transported to Gadsden Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a punctured lung.

The Sheriff’s Department is still searching for a dark green Toyota Truck with Mossy Oak camouflage and urges anyone who has seen the truck or knows anything about this crime to call the Sheriff’s Department at (256)927-3365. The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.
