Sand Rock has set its budget for the next 12 months.

At its Oct. 10 meeting, the Sand Rock Town Council approved an $87,226 budget for the 2005-06 fiscal year.

The budget is a decrease of $3,194. Mayor Bill Glenn noted that the town was under budget by 4 percent for the 2004-05 fiscal year.

In other business, the council voted to contribute $2,500 annually over a 10-year period towards the Gadsden State Community College/Cherokee County Campus School of Nursing and Community Center.

The council also agreed to donate $250 per year to the Cherokee Humane Society.

In regard to the Nov. 10 Sand Rock Veterans Day Appreciation Program at the school gymnasium, the council voted to host a post-program reception at the town hall and purchase pocket calendars as gifts for said program.

The council confirmed a previous motion that reserved the second Saturday in October for Sand Rock Day. In a related matter, the council agreed to book the local band Restless for the 2006 event.

The council voted to set a town webpage, with the site to be designed by Casey Hobgood.

The council rejected a bid for town park trash cans.

The council reviewed the new town zoning maps and noted that they needed corrections before final approval
