During a recent board meeting, the board approved Tommy McDaniel who will continue as chairman and Don Stowe who will continue as vice chairman.
The board considered a 6 percent increase in board members salaries, which would become effective Nov. 21, 2006. The issue died, however, for lack of a motion.
Superintendent Brian Johnson updated the board and visitors on High Hopes tutoring, the Centre Middle School roofing project and the Spring Garden School construction project.
Chad Hopper, local attorney, presented a settlement check of $10,118.56 from the Feb. 14, 2003 school bus accident.
The board met in executive session for four student disciplinary hearings and following the hearings:
-took no action on the first student. The student will remain in the alternative school for the remainder of the first semester and future placement will depend upon review.
-placed a Gaylesville School student in the alternative school for the remainder of the first semester, will require the student to do 30 hours of community service at Gaylesville School and on probation for the remainder of the school year.
-placed a Gaylesville student in In School Suspension (ISS) for the remainder of the first semester, will require the student to do 30 hours of communtiy service at Gaylesville School and on probation for the remainder of the school years.
-took no action on a Cherokee County High School since the student has withdrawn from the school system. If the student tries to re-enter the school system, a disciplinary hearing will be held at that tiem.
In other business, the board:
-accepted bids on a New Stadium Grandstand/Pressbox at Spring Garden School-Outdoor Aluminum-Base Bid-$176,164, Alt. #1(Aluminum grandstands on visitor side)-$61,886, Voluntary Alt.-$9,248 for Home side welded-Total low bid of $247,298.
The next meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Education is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m., at the board office and this will be the only meeting in December. For this meeting, Chairman McDaniel asked each new member to recap their first year in office
