Governor to visit Centre Middle School Monda | Loca

Gov. Bob Riley, who has proposed a supplemental appropriation of $500 million to help local school systems, colleges and universities with construction, renovation and repair costs, will visit three different schools on Monday, Jan. 23 to discuss his plan, including Centre Middle School.

At each stop, Gov. Riley will meet with the local school superintendent. The Alabama Association of School Superintendents has endorsed Gov. Riley's proposal. The press is invited to join Gov. Riley as he tours each school. After the tour, the governor will discuss his proposal and be available to answer questions from the press.

The governor's schedule for Monday is:

CENTRE - Gov. Riley and Supt. Brian Johnson will visit Centre Middle School, 350 East Main Street, at 10:25 a.m. to discuss the school's building needs. Members of the Cherokee County Board of Education are also expected to attend. Centre Middle School has serious repair needs, including ceiling problems, and the need to expand classrooms and remove portables. Gov. Riley first visited Centre Middle School in late October and said he was astounded at the school's condition.

VINEMONT - Gov. Riley and Supt. Nancy Horton will visit Vinemont High School and discuss its building needs at 12:15 p.m. The high school is located on High School Road, Highway 31.

TUSCALOOSA - Gov. Riley and Supt. Frank Costanzo will visit Holt High School and discuss its building needs at 2 p.m. The high school is located at 3801 Alabama Avenue
